Elder Sifu Lok Wei Ping Passes

Sadly, Sifu Lok Wei Ping has passed. Both, he and his father, Lok Hui Ting, were students of Lao Sui's Chu Gar Mantis in the 1930s before becoming students of Wong Yuk Kong's Kwongsai Mantis. Elder Sifu Lok, in the 40s and 50s worked as a healer and bone doctor in Wong's Kungfu Schools in Hong Kong. He was an invaluable living record of Chu Gar and Kwongsai Jook Lum Temple Mantis in the era from whence it all came.

I first met Lok Sifu in 2002 during the China Mantis Reunion.

I found Lok Wei Ping, Sifu, the eldest master that day, to be kindly and very clear about the origins, history and practices of Som Dot's three orders of Mantis. Mr. Lok's stature was short, hardly five foot tall, but his martial intent and fiery nature is readily apparent. He left no question as to his past, ability or mantis knowledge. He was a living treasure of Southern Praying Mantis that cannot be replaced. He was already 80 on the day of the pictures below!
